convention coming up!
Posted on 06 Oct 2008 @ 16:55
Sorry gang....still not much to report on the acting front..... Darn strike in L.A. is still slowing down production big time. Although studios have started to move a bit, it is still quite dead all around....and very dead in Vancouver. Haven't had an audition in two weeks! Have one tomorrow. Crossing fingers. Where did the time go?! Sci Fi convention coming up in Montreal, Canada. It is called Con*cept. October 17th - 19th. Not a huge show but is dedicated to the sci fi and fantasy world. TV, literature, gaming, artwork...etc... There are writers, authors, me, etc......who are all connected to sci fi in some way. Best way to find out about them is go to the website. conceptsff.ca. I believe that is it. I have never been to Montreal so i am psyched. Supposed to be a very old and very cultured part of our country. Big on french. Not everyone so big on english so i might get a dirty look or two....my french is not great .....could get me out of a bar brawl, as my mother used to say, but i am not eloquent in my french grammar. More later...must run....think i am going to Mexico for my 4oth birthday in a month and i plan to been seen very naked...long story.....so i am off to the gym....bod not bikini ready yet....not by a long shot. Eep. xo
Hey Sam! AWWW It's nice that you go to MEXICO for your 40th birthday. I hope weather will be nice on your birthday. I can't wait to see you next weekend at convention! I am exciting to forward that. I am suprised that you have never been to Montreal before but guess what I have never been to Montreal too. I can't wait to see it and what look like in Montreal! I am so exciting.... I will see you next weekend and have a good week! oxox&hugs, Elisa By Elisa @ 06 Oct 2008 06:29 pm Congrats and :( on 40 Good luck on the audition. Have fun on your trips. And don't forget your bar fight rings. By Trik_Ster @ 06 Oct 2008 07:41 pm Félicitations on being able to speak French at any level. The language arts in the US are weak. Many young people think France is like the capitol of Europe or someplace. Of course the French might not think what the Quebequois speak is French anyway, but we're not on that committee. Have fun on the audition! It's fun, remember! Fingers crossed. By karasu @ 06 Oct 2008 09:04 pm Hey Sam, good to hear from you. Ouch, I knew the looming strike was delaying production but didn't realize it was quite that bad. Hope it doesn't come to an actual strike, that would be bad for everyone. Ooh Mexico for your birthday? Can I come please? I've been once, loved it, my favourite trip ever. Enjoy! take care Janine xo By Janine @ 06 Oct 2008 11:40 pm Sam! So good to hear from you! I know where did the time go... Yeesh... Glad your stll doing that Sci-Fi Con in Montreal... I wish I could go, but I gotta go to school... Grr... I heard Montreal is very french... I don't know any french but it would be nice to know how to speak it... Aw, I'm sure your French is just fine... Oh, and going to Mexico? Wish I could go, to get away from all this mess here in the states... At least to see my family anyways... Anyways, as always, best of luck on all your projects that you get! Let us know what else is going on as soon as you get another chance! Okay... Ya Me Voy, ~Melissa~ By Melissa @ 07 Oct 2008 10:23 am Yes, the language arts in the states is sad. I figured that at least Spanish would be mandatory but alas, no. For me, French was mandatory in high school up til grade 11, and although i hated my teacher, i'm glad. My mother always tried to push my brother and I into as many languages as possible (she spoke 5) and now i understand why. There is a freedom in knowing other lingos. You can go around the world and know that you could survive, communicate with people, feel connected to them and their culture. I was in Paris last summer and my French 11 came in super handy. It made the event so much more fun and interesting. Anyway, i guess my point is, learn a language other than your own! Make your kids take another language at school! They will thank you for it later. xo Sam By sam ferris @ 07 Oct 2008 11:49 am Enjoy Montreal!! It is a beautiful city. I hope you have a wonderful bday celebration. Naked is good. Nekkid is even better. I wish you much joy as you bring in your fortieth!! Kat By dragonbaby @ 07 Oct 2008 12:29 pm Happy Birthday. Okay, so it's a bit early, but hey. Break a leg on that audition! By Kat C. @ 07 Oct 2008 01:20 pm "Anyway, i guess my point is, learn a language other than your own! " "Oh stewardess! I speak jive" Barbara Billingsley in Airplane. By Trik_Ster @ 07 Oct 2008 04:07 pm Hey Sam! Good to hear from you again. I'm sorry the audition world seems so dead right the moment, although I hope you're taking the time to relax just a little...You deserve it! And Mexico sounds like it will be very fun. I agree that learning another language is important. I'm 17 and hope to be fluent in french in a couple of years. Montreal sounds like fun. I really wish I could come and meet you, but I'm far away across the sea. I did meet you at Asylum though! Take care Alyssa xoxoxo By Alyssa @ 07 Oct 2008 10:12 pm Hi Sam!, looks like I will finally meet you! I am from Montreal! One of my friend is coming from Quebec City to see you as well at the Con. It is indeed a beautiful city. Don't worry too much about your French, it's a very bilingual city, so almost everyone knows english! See you soon! Au revoir! By MILLA @ 08 Oct 2008 04:30 am 40? No way!!!!!!! Well Happy Birthday to you a bit early! Have a wonderful time in Mexico and at the convention. We will miss you in Chicago in November. Heather By Heather @ 08 Oct 2008 11:30 am Hey, Sam! It's been a while since I visited this blog, you seem to have fallen off my radar. In any case, I decided to check back here after doing a little creative writing piece for school inspired by you (and Ellen, seeing as that's all I've actually seen of you visually). The big four-oh, huh? Well, you're looking good for forty. I'm completely jealous of your various travels. I've always wanted to go abroad - or even to other regions of the US, for that matter - but money/time/being a student/etc. are always issues. I completely agree with you about languages. I wish that I could take more than one at school, and that they focused more on conversational stuff. I'll cross my fingers for you as far as this audition goes! It would be nice to see you up on the screen again! -Coweh By Coweh @ 08 Oct 2008 05:52 pm Hey Sam, enjoy your birthday!!!! Montreal is beautiful, I hope you can spend some time there outside of the convention. We will certainly miss you in Chicago thats for sure. By Roxanne Mackenzie @ 08 Oct 2008 05:59 pm Hi Sam^^ Don't worry about your French, Montreal is a great city with many people that speak english too. Can't wait to see you there^___^ By Katie @ 09 Oct 2008 10:18 am Hey Sam!! Good to hear from you! It had been a long time indeed but time passes so fast, I can't believe it's already almost Xmas again (ok maybe I'm jumping a bit too far forward here, but you get the idea :P) I have to confirm what karasu said. Lol. Quebecois is not French!! Not that we don't want it to be french coz we're protective or anything, it's just experience. When Milla (you'll see her in Montreal - she left a comment) came over this summer to visit, we had to go through English sometimes to understand each other!!! ROTF!! It just spices life a little... hehe. Anyhow, if you managed in Paris, you'll managed without a problem in Montreal. Great fun ahead! I totally agree with you when you say that knowing a language helps connecting with people and their culture when you visit their country. That's why I have to sork on my spanish before heading to Mexico!! Have fun in Montreal and let us know how the audition went. (There should be more coming since apparently the SAG finally got back to their senses and signed something...) Cheers. Isabelle By Lizz @ 17 Oct 2008 02:00 am "Mexico for my 4oth birthday in a month and i plan to been seen very naked..." - and you say the phone isn't ringing? By rudy @ 17 Oct 2008 10:29 am Well Montreal might be with a lot of people that speak french and english or just english...but the Quebec is a french province Lizz If you go out of Montreal that is a big city of the Quebec, is a lot of french. But don't worry Sam^___^ Montreal have a lot of english, especially in the convention, I had to try to speak english to make myself understand there^^'' By Katie @ 17 Oct 2008 07:39 pm Hey chicken! Hope you had a fab time in Montreal.....and the big 40 next month....I'm intrigued about the very naked bit....I am assuming you will share more with us on this lol! Here's hoping the job situation picks up for you. Take care Ali By Ali @ 18 Oct 2008 03:12 pm Hi Sam!! What a great time we had on Saturday night in Montreal with you! You are a really awesome person to meet. What you see it's what you get with you and that's what I like! I'm still sad that I won't be able to join my friend in vancouver after Chicago. BUT!! hey I will try my best to be at the next EYECON, hopefully with you as a guest! Thanx again for everything, stay as you are, keep on the good work and best luck with all your future projects! Hope to keep in touch! Carolyne By MILLA @ 19 Oct 2008 01:41 pm Hi Sam! It's been a while! Hope you have some time to look around Montreal. I traveled there to visit family friends and there are many beautiful and unique parts. The best way I can describe it is that it is the perfect cross between a European city and a No.American city. Definitely has that European flair, unlike Vancouver. And I'm glad that they also spoke English there! I know 2 other languages, but French isn't one of them. Have a blast! Good luck on the auditions. :))) By ~Mousitsa~ @ 19 Oct 2008 03:48 pm Hi Sam, I had a great time this weekend at the convention^___^ You were great and I loved to speak with you saturday. I hope I'll be able to see you again at other convention if my parents let me go to the USA By Julie @ 21 Oct 2008 08:16 pm Naked in Mexico? I think I know where you are going. Will you bring us photos <EG>? Women in their 40's (and 50's) are really hot, so you will be in great company. By Walter @ 22 Oct 2008 02:48 am
