Here i am!

Hi kids,

Haven't forgotten! Haven't had much to update you on (acting) but have been doing a lot of other stuff. Life stuff.

In a nutshell, it has been a rather "high and low" summer. I have mentioned this before....i have a friend who is very sick with level 4 breast cancer. The battle is not going too well right now and we don't know what the future holds. So i have spent a great deal of time living life with her. I have this wonderful deck at the back of my house and we have spent many hours back there.....drinking beer, laughing, crying etc.... Somehow i fell in love with the TOTALLY wrong person and got my heart broken. That was a serious low. Work has been rather uneventful and that always makes me a bit antsy. This ongoing pending actors strike is getting beyond dumb. Either do it or don't, but come on here! Someone make a move! The whole industry is still in limbo and nobody is making a decision. My agent told me that studios are going to start doing stuff because the waiting game is not working.

The weather has been fantastic this year in Vancouver! Yay...finally. Did a lot of fun stuff this summer; my friend's wedding in Vegas, golf and wine tour trip to the Okanagan (lake and resort part of B.C.), visited friends in other parts of B.C., travelled a bit, golfed a lot, got a tan, and gained about 300 lbs. Which goes directly to my boobs, oddly enough. I know that doesn't sound bad but they seem to have gotten a bit out of control and get in the way when i play golf, which i try to do as much as possible so you see my dilemma.

Really don't have much to tell you on the acting front because of the strike but i am waiting to hear on something i went out for last thursday. I'll let you know. So seeing as i don't have much to tell you about that, i will give you a little Sam Ferris information to fill the gap.

My friends and i were sitting around one night and got into something called "4 things about me". So i will pass on my info to you. You can play this with your friends....it works well by email.

4 JOBS I HAVE HAD:
1. treeplanter
2. macdonald's counter girl (i was 13!)
3. Radio D.J.
4. hotel chambermaid

4 THINGS I AM AFRAID OF:
1. Linda blair in the Excorcist.....when she comes down the stairs in a crabwalk!
2. needles
3. death
4. spiders

4 THINGS THAT MAKE ME CRY:
1. when i get handwritten letters from my World Vision sponsored kids.
2. my friend's health woes.
3. that YOUTUBE video about the lion greeting his old owners.
4. the olympics......those people put their heart and soul into that thing!

4 THINGS ABOUT ME THAT I DON'T LIKE:
1. I am stupidly impatient.
2. my sensitivity to things that shouldn't bug me.
3. the fact that i have dropped the gym and gained mucho weight this summer.
4. i am the biggest procrastinator on the planet earth.

4 PLACES I HAVE BEEN:
1. Amsterdam
2. The outbacks of Ireland
3. Paris
4. Chicago

4 OF MY FAVE BANDS:
1. Dandy Warhols
2. Oasis (they were just in Vancouver....cheeky boys)
3. Angels and Airwaves
4. April Wine

4 TV SHOWS I WATCH:
1. Cold Case Files
2. Dirty jobs with Mike Rowe
3. Trailerpark Boys (getting a bit sick of that one)
4. Ely Stone

4 THINGS I HATE:
1. bad drivers
2. mean people
3. reality television (the Idol shows, Survivor, Apprentice.....ick, yuck, ptooey!
4. my nose

4 THINGS I WANT TO DO IN THIS LIFE:
1. start a horse rescue society of my own
2. own a vineyard
3. get into wicked shape
4. try to accomplish more of a voice for animals and the fair treatment of them.

There were more, but you get the idea.

Speaking of horse rescue, i must go now. It's my sunday volunteer gig and it is out the valley of Vancouver....about an hour away.

Won't leave it so long next time. Promise.

Hope you are all well.....

xo
Hey Sam, how strange, I was just thinking this morning that we'd not heard from you for a while and hoped you were ok.

I have friends in LA also frustrated with the non-strike. They're desperate to work but no-one will commit to anything.

I'm so sorry about your friend, and hope that things improve for her.

Your Summer sounds very busy and fulfilling. Summer in London has been a complete disaster, in that we've had almost no sun, and it's even been chilly enough some evenings to put the heating on. Maybe next year I should come to your side of the world instead.

I enjoyed reading your 4 Things lists. I loved that youtube vid of the lion too, I cried so much, it's heartwarming to see things like that.

I'm in the middle of watching The Tudors. Have you seen it? It's pretty saucy but I'm enjoying it, and at the very least John Rhys Myers is pretty to look at :)

take care

Hey there! You prob don't remember me but I was at Eyecon in April (I was the NY Rangers fan :P ) But anyway I'm sorry about your friend :( I hope she gets better.

I also were hoping you'd be at Eyecon Sept 26-28th... I'm holding out hope you will be there! I loved hanging out with you last time! You are such a blast....

hope to talk to ya soon!

Hi Samantha!
I am so glad that you has alot fun over summer! It's nice of you spend with your best friend who has battle breast cancer. It good thing that you had fantastic weather in Vancouver.

You not gain weight like 300lbs. That's silly! You are fantastic and healthy women... What's up with Supernatural Season 4th? I hope you back to in Supernatural tv show..

one more thing, how is Kramer??? I hope he doing good. I bet he happy that you spent with him during summer.

I hope you have a great Labor Day! Enjoy It...

There's a song done by a Scotsman about a well-endowed woman who attempted to play golf. Doesn't end well for the golf pro who commented on them *G*.

I'm sorry to hear your friend's fight isn't going as well as hoped. I'm really sorry that you got your heart broken. It sucks that the possible-maybe-impending-but who knows strike is screwing with gigs. I really do hope it clears up soon, dammit.

and Eli Stone! I only just discovered that. It's been fun!

I have never commented here before but I am a huge Supernatural fan and just wanted to tell you that I love the Ellen character and am so disappointed that she has not been made more use of on the series. You are such a tremendous actor in that role and I really miss seeing Ellen. My heart goes out to your friend, bless her soul, and I will keep her in my thoughts and prayers. My mother's cancer is showing signs of returning 4 years after she had a stem cell/bone marrow transplant, and I know it is very difficult to watch a loved one suffer. Take care of yourself, and I wish you all the best in your career and life. Thank you again for enriching MY life and imagination with your wonderful portrayal of Ellen and with your spirited, amazing blog posts.

Sam!!
Was starting to wonder what was up with you. Good to hear that you are well and in shape, even if maybe in too much shape (ok, so this works in french - en forme/en formes- maybe not so much in english)
It's nice that you chose to spend time with your friend and enjoyed it with its highs and lows. Not so nice that once again we have proof that our heart is our greatest weakness... I'm not too worried for you though.

Had to check that YouTube video... now you make me cry first thing in the morning!! Great job!! I have the softest heart when it comes to animals, can't help it. I guess like someone said those were "happy tears" so it's ok.
I'm pretty sure we could fight a long time in order to decide who between you and me is the world's biggest procrastinator!! Haha... I sometime depress myself with that. Yeah can't say I did much of my summer except enjoy the sun aswell, although I had tons of important things to do... it sucks but I couldn't help it. Now the summer is over (technically coz the weather sure is still great here on the french riviera... so not helping!!) I have no idea where those 2 months went and I still have to do those things urgently now!! I might go watch some Cold Case epis instead... shed a few more tears eventually. Lol. *shame on me*

Thanks for sharing those little everyday facts about you.
Take care.
XX.

PS: whenever, remember not to let the horses near the vineyard!! ;)

"3. that YOUTUBE video about the lion greeting his old owners."

YES.

Oh gosh, that video gets me every time!

Also? Needles are and will forever be NOT COOL.

Thanks for the update Sam!

Oh, and out of all the awesome things ou'd like to do, I especially hope the animal based goals take off =)
By Heather @ 31 Aug 2008 11:27 pm

Sam! Great to hear from you! It's good to spend time with friends that need you... I understand that... Love the list of things about yourself... That YOUTUBE video about the lion and his owners makes me cry too every time... I hate spiders too! Their icky! I don't like mean people either... They tend to wound my feelings pretty easily... That would be awesome if you started your own horse rescue society... Animals do need a voice in the world... You were a countergirl at Mcdonald's when you were 13? I guess rules are a bit different where you live... In the States you have to be at least 15 and the state has to issue you a working permit... Anyways, loved the list of things about yourself... As always wishing you the best in everything you do! Okay...

Ya me voy,

~Melissa~

Hey Sam,

Awful news about your friend, it must be very hard seeing her battle cancer. I really hope things improve for her.

On the past jobs front, I also worked at Macdonalds when I was 13. I mentioned that to my kids once and now when anyone asks what does Mum do, they answer, she used to work at Macdonalds. Yeah, and then I was a lawyer. Sheesh. lol. But they find my Macdonalds history much more compelling. I guess when you're 9 and 5, working at Macdonalds is the coolest job around.

Hope the acting bizzo picks up soon.

Take care.

Hi Sam!
It's good to read from you again!
I'm so sorry to hear about your friend and I really hope she's feeling a little better now: having the chance to spent time with the people you love always makes things look better. My best friend's mother had breast cancer too, so I know what you're talking about.
Hope you get a gig soon so we can see you on screen again.
Hugs from Italy

Hey Sam-

Best of luck on your audition results! And true enough, boobs sometimes make a girl's life more difficult, not easier! :D

Brightest blessings to your friend; lost my mom to cancer 18 months ago. I keep hoping that I make her proud every day by not taking crap and living my own life. And if that means living it without a man, then so be it!

Falling for the wrong guy? There should be some sort of drug to prevent it. Take heart, you're an awesome chick. Don't ever ever settle!!

All the best from Covenstead Farm-

Hey Sam!
It's great to hear from you again. I'm so sorry about your friend, and I hope she's feeling a bit better. At least she has a fantastic friend to be with her.
You're so lucky to have been having great weather! I was in Vancouver back in June, and it was fantastic then too, but that is about the only sun I've seen this summer. England has been living up to its name as the rainy country.
Take care

Hey!
Sending good energy for your friend.
I loved your character in Supernatural. Any chance Ellen will reappear in the series, maybe? You probably get asked that question all the time.
Speaking of Supernatural, I understand Jensen and Jared are in the Red Bull Soapbox Derby thing in Vancouver today (Sept. 7th) in the charity race! I can only imagine watching those two tall guys cramming themselves into little tiny soapbox derby cars!
I'm right there with ya on the spiders and reality TV.
Well, all the best!

Hey!

Do you have any idea what you're gonna do at the convention in Montreal next month? Do you know if you'll be there the 3 days?

I don't want to miss you^___^
By Katie @ 21 Sep 2008 08:41 am

Hey Sam. I'm very sorry to read about your friend. It is heartbreaking when someone we love is so sick. I hope you have many times of laughter (((and tears when they are needed))) on your back deck with her. She truly needs as much laughter as you can find for her.

I've started watching Eureka. I think they film up there in Van. You'd make an awesome addition to that cast if there's an opening. Plus the lead, Colin Ferguson looks like a younger version of Mike Rowe. Can't go wrong there!!!

K now. Tis time to share your secret of eating and having the weight go directly to your boobs. Not fair 'cause everything I eat seems to attach itself much lower on my body. C'mon share!!! LOL

Hugs to you!

4. my nose

Don't you dare!

Remember Jennifer Grey?
Yeah post nose job no one does

You have a perfect nose
It's absolutely Sam
By Trik_Ster @ 24 Sep 2008 12:20 pm

Hey Sam,

So sorry about your friend, sending prayers her way. Your nose is perfect, and I wish they'd hurry up and get you actors a good deal so no more of this strike talk, it's so annoying lol. Have a great one babe.
By Kat @ 28 Sep 2008 01:34 am

Hey Sam, just popping by to say hi and hope and your friend are doing ok. I know you're busy but we're always happy to hear from you when you've got the time or the inclination.

take care

Hey, Sam, been a while since I checked in here. I think the whole summer went sort of *swoosh!* for me! Hope you're doing well and finding work. I've no clue what's doing with the strike at this date, other than they must have done something? Anyhow ... hope you're doing well.

I'm so sorry to hear about your friend. What is news now? I am a breast cancer survivor myself, and my heart goes out to you and her. You're doing what's needed most, I promise you, just by being her friend. Also so sorry to hear about your heartbreak. Life sometimes simply sucks out loud.

Missed you at EyeCon this year! I do hope to see you at a con again somewhere, someday. Meanwhile, hope to see you again in pictures! Take care of you, and pet that furry roommate of yours for me.
Cheers ~
